Study Rooms

Individual and group study rooms are available on the library’s 3rd floor, each equipped with chairs, desks, and whiteboards. LIB 202 and LIB 210C are Practice Presentation Rooms with whiteboards, tables, chairs, and TVs for screen sharing. All rooms can be reserved online (see instructions below).

Sound Zones

Social Zone

Social Zones are located on floors 2 & 3. Social Zones are perfect for group study, moderate conversation, and considerate phone use.

Quiet Zone

Quiet Zones are located on Floors 1 & 4. Quiet Zones are good for limited hushed conversation, limited phone use (text), headphone use required.

Silent Zone

The Silent Zone is located on the fourth floor in room 419. The Silent Zone requires no conversations, devices must be muted, and food, drink, & gum must be eaten elsewhere.

Reserving a Study Room

  • Individual and Group Study Rooms on the third floor can be reserved in one-hour blocks, up to three hours per day, per person or group. 
    • Reservations may be made up to one week in advance
    • Individual rooms accommodate one person
    • Group rooms require 3–6 people
  • The Testing Room (LIB 318) has a computer and is available for UT Tyler students needing privacy for exams or online interviews. 
    • Accommodates one student
    • Can be reserved for up to three hours per day, up to two weeks in advance
    • Is located in a social zone
  • Presentation rooms (LIB 202 and LIB 210-C)
    • May be reserved up to two weeks in advance
    • For two hours per day per group
 

FAQs

The first and fourth floors of the Library are designated as Quiet Zones. Tables are located on the first floor. Individual carrels, soft furniture, and study tables are located on the fourth floor. Fourth floor also offers a silent study space in LIB 419 and LIB 422 is a quiet computer lab.

Individual study rooms are available on the third floor, however, this floor is zoned as Social. While these study rooms do not provide complete sound insulation from the collaborative study area, they do provide privacy.

Muntz Library provides a variety of study spaces including group and collaborative study areas. The second and third floors of the Library are designated “Social Zones” with various types of seating and tables available throughout. Study rooms are available to current UTTyler students only.

Three group study rooms are available by reservation or on a walk-in basis. These rooms have been enhanced with an HD monitor to connect laptops and other devices. HDMI and other cables are available at the Help Desk. Reservations can be made up to one week in advance by using a QR code posted on the room or by using the link provided on the Library website: https://uttyler.libcal.com/reserve/study_rooms.

LIB 202 and LIB 210-C are available for presentation practice. These rooms are located on the second floor of the Library. Reservations may be made up to two weeks in advance for a maximum of two hours per day per group. These rooms are equipped with a computer, HD monitor, and whiteboard. The Testing Room in LIB 318 provides UTTyler students with a private room and computer for testing and online interviews. Reservations are available up to two weeks in advance for up to three hours per day. Students may request additional time if needed by contacting the Help Desk at 903-566-7342. Students should be aware that this room is located on the third floor which is zoned 'social' and the room is not soundproof.

Current UT Tyler students may use LIB 210-C or LIB 202 to create video presentations, however, the Library does not provide recording equipment or editing software. Practice Presentation rooms may be reserved online, up to two weeks in advance for two consecutive hours per day per group.

LIB 422 computer lab is prioritized for library instruction and is used as a quiet computer lab for students when not in use. UT Tyler faculty and staff may request a reservation through Astra. Maximum occupancy is 26.

Student organizations must contact Student Life and Leadership to obtain meeting space on campus.

Current UT Tyler students may reserve a Practice Presentation Room, an Individual Study Room, a Group Study Room, or the Testing Room.

Reservations for Individual and Group Study Rooms on the third floor are available in one hour blocks for up to three hours per day per person or per group. They can be reserved up to one week in advance. Individual Study Rooms have a maximum occupancy of one. Group Study Rooms have a minimum occupancy of three and maximum occupancy of six.

The Testing Room, LIB 318, is equipped with a computer intended for use by UTTyler students who need privacy for exams and online interviews. Students who own a laptop are encouraged to use an Individual Study Room for privacy. Students who need a computer but do not require privacy are encouraged to use a computer on the second floor or in the quiet computer lab in LIB 422. The Testing Room will accommodate one student and reservations are available for up to three hours per day, two weeks in advance. The Testing Room is located on the third floor which is zoned 'social' and rooms are not soundproof.

Presentation rooms, LIB 202 and LIB 210-C, may be reserved up to two weeks in advance for two hours per day per group.

UT Tyler faculty and staff may request a reservation for the computer lab in LIB 422, LIB 202, or LIB 210-C through Astra.
