OE Week was created by Open Education Global, a global non-profit supporting the development and use of open education practices around the world. The purpose of OE Week is to raise awareness of open education efforts and to provide a forum for educators and students to understand and appreciate the work being done globally to increase access to education.
SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) defines open education as"...resources, tools and practices that are free of legal, financial and technical barriers and can be fully used, shared and adapted in the digital environment. Open Education maximizes the power of the Internet to make education more affordable, accessible and effective."1
The library has promoted OER and other low- and no-cost textbooks options for many semesters. In the past our OE Week celebration included an OER petting zoo, with information about various OE repositories and sample chapters from open textbooks available for faculty to peruse. Due to concerns about virus spread, we are taking that display online. We hope you enjoy!
