What is ILLIAD?
ILLIAD is a user-driven interlibrary loan request system.
Who can use it?
It's available for use by any current UTTyler student, faculty member or staff member.
Is it Free or are there costs?
It's user-pays, if the lending library charges. Loan's are free if we can find a free lender. You tell us what you are willing to pay in the request form.
What Can I Request?
Use it to request journal articles, books, book chapters.
How will I receive requested material?
Article & book chapter requests are delivered electronically to your ILLIAD account inbox as pdf documents.
Print books and other physical items are posted to you by mail.¹

It requires free account set-up to use. See the Register an Account tab on this page for details.

¹ If you are distance students. Campus-based students pick up their interlibrary loan materials from the Cirulation Desk on Muntz 2nd floor. Outbound & return postage covered by the library. You can request print books from the Muntz Library collection as well as material from other libraries using ILLIAD.
Register an ILLIAD account to create your personal ID and password for logging in.
1. Navigate to registration page: https://ill.uttyler.edu/illiad.dll?Action=10&Form=79
2. Complete all required fields (marked with an asterisk)
a. Note: Use your Patriots email as your contact email
3. Click Submit button at bottom
4. Once submitted, ILLIAD will navigate to the Main Menu: Outstanding Requests page (default)
Once registered, you are ready to start requesting items on interlibrary loan!
There are two ways to request interlibrary loans: 1. manually, 2. auto-request.
Procedure with Example Article Citation for Practice
1. From the Interlibrary Loan facet menu, locate & click the New Request drop down menu,
a. Select Article (1st of 6 menu options)
2. Copy & paste (or type in) the required information (boxes marked with an asterisk) from the sample CINAHL citation
b. CINAHL Accession Number: 142108741
i. Enter the accession number in the search box and select AN Accession Number
3. In the Applicable Charges box, enter an amount you would be willing to pay if a free lender is unavailable
a. You can enter $0.00 if you are not willing to pay for the article, but an amount needs to be specified so that interlibrary loan staff are aware of the stop point: the point at which free lending options are exhausted and you are no longer interested.
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Submit Request button.
5. When successful, ILLIAD will return you to the Main Menu: Outstanding Requests page
a. The title and author of your requested article will appear in the spreadsheet
b. Your request is assigned a Transaction (tracking) number (leftmost column)
i. Click the Transaction number
c. This takes you to the Detailed Information screen for your item request
i. Here you can:
1. Track the progress of your request through the process (Tracking box, bottom of page)
2. Edit request details (Edit Request link top left)
3. Cancel your request, should you wish to do so (Cancel Request link, top middle)
ii. Click the Cancel Request link and cancel this practice request.
Procedure with Example Article Citation for Practice
1. Use the following permanent URL link or CINAHL Accession Number to navigate to the test citation:
b. CINAHL Accession Number: 142655025
i. Enter the accession number in the search box and select AN Accession Number from the drop-down menu, then click Search
2. Find and click the Borrow from Another Library link (beneath the citation in Search Results view; upper left of Detailed Record view)
a. If you have already logged in to ILLIAD, you will navigate directly to the Article Request form,
b. If you are not already logged in to ILLIAD, you will be prompted to do so, after which you will land on the Article Request form
3. The required fields auto-populate, using this method
a. Review the required fields for completeness and accuracy
4. In the Applicable Charges box, enter an amount you would be willing to pay if a free lender is unavailable
5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Submit Request button.
1. Locate & click the View menu (lower middle option of left column facets menu),
2. Select Electronically Received Articles,
3. Locate the row of the received article you wish to view,
4. Click the corresponding link in the View column.
