Research Guides: What and Where are They?

📘 What Are Library Research Guides? 🔍 How to Find Library Research Guides at UT Tyler
Library research guides are online pages created by librarians to help you find the best resources for your classes and assignments. Think of them like a cheat sheet or roadmap for doing research.

Each guide is focused on a specific subject (like nursing, history, or pharmacy) or even a particular class. They show you:

• Where to find articles, books, and videos
• Which databases to use (these are special search engines for academic stuff)
• How to cite your sources in the correct format (like APA or MLA)
• Tips for searching smarter and getting better results
• Helpful links and tools your professors trust
• How to contact a librarian for extra help

If you're not sure where to start with your research, or you want to make sure you're using the right sources, a research guide is the perfect place to begin.

1. Go to the Muntz Library website
Visit the UT Tyler Robert R. Muntz Library homepage. You’ll see links like SwoopSearch, Databases by Title, and Research Guides.

2. Locate the “Research Guides” link
On the homepage or in the top menu, click the “Research Guides” link.

3. Arrive at the Research Guides page
You’ll see categories such as: BY GROUP, BY SUBJECT, BY TYPE, BY LIBRARIAN, and ALL GUIDES. There’s also a search box.

4. Browse or Search
Browse: Click BY SUBJECT or ALL GUIDES to see guides by discipline.
Search: Type a keyword (like "biology" or "education") into the search box.

5. Select a guide
Click on the guide title that fits your subject. It will open a page full of helpful tools and resources.
