When searching in the catalogue, try using the following wildcards to help with your search. Remember spelling counts!
" "- will keep a phrase together during the search
?- in the middle of a word will help if you are not sure about a letter
$ -at the end of a word will look for all variations of the word such as the plural form
Also try using the words or phrase option. This will search the entire record for your search term. There may be a book with a good chapter on your topic.
Here are a few good print resources to get you started with research. The library is not limited to basic books and databases.
Dictionaries/Encyclopedias- Art specific dictionaries/ encyclopedias can provide help with not only art terms but also collection information and some general background art history. These are a good place to start your research. Most are located in the Reference section of the library.
Bibliographies- art bibliographies are a great source for research. They take a topic and provide a list of sources on that topic. Bibliographies are the one stop shopping of research.
