From the Syllabus:
Research Project and Presentation=25%
Each student will have an opportunity to select and research an aspect of African American history. Students will write a 7-10 page short research paper based on primary and secondary sources. Instructions for the assignment will be given in class. Students will have 10 minutes to present their arguments, findings, methodology, and conclusions to the class. We will discuss research strategies for both primary and secondary sources and research writing in class.
Assignment: Research and write about African American history. Choose a research topic of interest to you and of relevance to the themes of our class which surrounds the important issue of the problem of freedom and the rhetoric of justice. Pick a topic that allows you to investigate a particular issue, case, organization, etc., in detail and then to provide your own analysis within a broader historical framework by specifically considering the issue of African American freedom.
Hi! My name is Sarah Norrell, and I'm the Librarian who jumped at the chance to work with the History Department and its students. This guide is designed to help you navigate the resources available in the UT Tyler Library for African American history, as well as other resources beyond our campus. It is not totally comprehensive, but it should give you a good start on the research necessary for your paper.
Please note the tabs across the top of this page--they will direct you to books, articles, other sources, and to guides on how to cite your sources in Chicago/Turabian Manual of Style.
